The Crown Jewels Commission (Ireland) (Shaw Commission) was appointed by the Lord Lieutenant General and General Governor of Ireland, on 6 January 1908, 'to investigate the circumstances of the loss of the regalia of the Order of St Patrick, and to inquire whether Sir Arthur Vicars exercised due vigilance and proper care as the custodian thereof.' The members of the commission were Judge James J Shaw KC, Robert F Starkie Esq and Chester Jones Esq.
