Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Despatches from Edward Wells Bell, lieutenant governor of Jamaica, and William Robert Inglis, president of the Turks and Caicos Islands (September to December 1856) together with correspondence from 'offices' (government departments and other organisations) and individuals sent during the year. Correspondence from offices and individuals is not, and correspondents and subjects are as follows: Offices:
- Admiralty (passages to the Bahamas for Mr F Ellis and family);
- Board of Trade (no objection to Ordinance No. 14 to amend Ordinance No. 2 'for raising a revenue for the support of the Government');
- Treasury (application for repayment of balance of expenditure in connection with the lighthouse, no objection to appropriation ordinance for 1856 and estimates, no objection to Ordinance No. 11 concerning dog tax, query regarding a payment to Mrs Radcliffe by the colonial agent without probate having been taken out, approves estimates for erection of new Government House, no objection to estimates and appropriation ordinance for 1857, further on payment to Mrs Radcliffe, sanctions arrangements for renting a temporary Government House);
- War Office (assistant surgeon for the troops);
- Land Board (no objection to the alienation in fee of the salt ponds on conversion of leasehold tenures);
- General Post Office (postal arrangements in the colony, establishment of book post);
- Patriotic Fund Commission (acknowledges receipt of £180 7s. 5d.);
- Office of Works (transmits report on plans and estimate for new Government House);
- Mr J Ellis (application for leave of absence for his brother Mr F Ellis, Queen's advocate);
- Mr F Ellis, Queen's advocate (applies for contract passage for himself and family, applies for extension of leave);
- Captain F Forth (claim to re-employment);
- Mrs Jane M Glass (complaint against Mr Thomas Ockenden, inspector of schools)
