Description

Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Despatches from Henry Barkly, Governor of Jamaica, concerning the Turks and Caicos Islands as well as letters from various government offices (departments) and from Individuals. Correspondence from Offices and Individuals (most of which relates to the despatches sent from the governors in CO 301/12, CO 301/13 and CO 301/14) is not. Offices: Admiralty (passages for officials, postal communications); Board of Trade (Ordinance No. 6); Military Department [War Office] (vacancy for crown surveyor); Foreign Office (United States consul); Treasury (Ordinances Nos. 7 and 9, lighthouse at Grand Turk, postal communications) Individuals: Mr J Arthur (complaints against President Forth and about his suspension from duties); Mr A J Duncome (defence against president's charges in connection with Mr Ellis's case); Mr F Ellis (defence against charge of incompetence brought against him by president, application for promotion to another colony, complaint against president for interference with his private practice); Mr J Ellis (case and suspension of his brother); Mr G Gibbs (complaints against President Forth, petition relating to illegal taxation); Mr J Graham (his appointment as crown surveyor); Mr G H Mathew (complaint of Mr Rycroft against President Forth for stoppage of emigration from Turks Islands to the Dominican States); Mr W A Radcliffe (application for the appointment of HM commissioner); Captain W Radcliffe (application for arrears of pay and passage money alleged to be due to his late son, W A Radcliffe); Major General Taylor (promotion for President Forth).
