Description

Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Despatches from Frederick Forth, President of the Turks and Caicos Islands, most of which transmit duplicates of despatches sent by him to Charles Edward Grey, Governor of Jamaica. Many of these are copied and discussed in CO 301/10, Grey's despatches concerning Turks and Caicos for the same year. This volume also includes correspondence from various government offices (departments) and from Individuals. Correspondence from Offices and Individuals (most of which relates to the despatches sent from the governor and the president in CO 301/10 and CO 301/11) is not. Offices: Admiralty (postal communications); Board of Trade (Ordinance No. 6, 'pilotage'); Treasury (Mr P Walker's passage expenses; Mr F Ellis's application for half salary; Grand Turk lighthouse; £150 per annum sanctioned to the two assistant police magistrates; no objection to Ordinances Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5); Land Board (salt pond leases; establishment of new salinas at West Caicos and proposed introduction of labourers) Individuals: Mr J Arthur (charges against President Forth; application for appointment as queen's advocate and stipendiary in the event of Mr Ellis not returning); Mr F Ellis (application for leave); Messrs G and W Gibb (complaints against President Forth); Mr Mathew (complaint of Mr Rycroft against President Forth's alleged stoppage of emigration to the Dominican States).
