Description

Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Despatches from the governor as well as letters from various government offices (departments) and from Individuals. Correspondence from Offices and Individuals (most of which relates to the despatches sent from the governor in CO 301/6 and CO 301/7) is not. Offices: Admiralty (postal communication); Board of Trade (Ordinance No. 6, 'Pilotage'); Foreign Office (tonnage duty on British vessels arriving at St Domingo from Turks Island); Treasury (Lighthouse at Grand Turk, salary of medical attendant, issue of debentures, public library, customs department, collection of revenue, removal expenses of stipendiary magistrate, supplementary expenditure, appointment of officers of the public revenue); Baptist Missionary Society (complaints against Mr Rycroft); Land Board (cultivation of certain estates on the 'Metayer' system). Individuals: J Arthur (charges against President Forth); G Gibbs (charges against President Forth); Rev W Rycroft and others (memorial asking for removal of President Forth); A G Wynns (complaints against Rycroft); N Wright (complaint against President Forth); c. 270 inhabitants of Grand Cay (petition for equalisation of salt pond leases, non-introduction of convicts, etc).
