Correspondence, Original - Secretary of State: Despatches from the governor as well as letters from various government offices (departments) and Individuals. Correspondence from Offices (mostly concerning matters reported by the governor during 1850) and Individuals is not. Offices: Treasury, General Post Office, Admiralty; Individuals: Mr J Arthur (concerning the case of Mr Rickard and making various charges against President Forth); Mr Barclay, British Consulate New York (stating that he has arranged for a bag received from President Forth to be transmitted to the Colonial Office by the American mail steam ship Pacific), Mr A S Darncome (acknowledging his appointment as member of Council), Mr J Ellis, MP (asking that his brother, Francis Ellis, be appointed stipendiary in place of Mr Cartwright); Mr E W Tutem [Tatem?]; Mr George Gibbs and seven others forwarding copy of a petition against the proposal to import convict labour [see also CO 301/3/20]; Mr George Gibbs and three others bringing charges against William Hamilton, Council Member.
