Description

London and South Western Railway: Eastern and London Midland Region - British Rail. Described at item level:

  • Electrification of Manchester to Sheffield and Wath-on-Dearne lines, completed by opening of new Wood-head Tunnel by Rt Hon A Lennox-Boyd, PC, MP.
  • Opening ceremony, speeches, table plan at commemorative luncheon, etc..
  • Original drawing of plaque placed in Third (new) Woodhead Tunnel on Manchester to Sheffield route in 1954.
  • Newspaper cuttings.
  • Publications - 'The Third Woodhead Tunnel' by George Dow, 'Woodhead New Tunnel, Construction of a Three Mile Main Double Line Railway Tunnel' by P A Scott and J I Campbell, and 'Electrification of the Manchester Sheffield and Wath Lines' issued by British Transport Commission.
