Handbill 10 Dec. 1853 (with photostat copy) eulogising and recommending a "Direct North Railway" in a straight line between Doncaster and Edinburgh. Among the amenities offered were comfortable second and third class carriages on all trains, "Instant Communication" with all carriages. For the staff were to be adequate remuneration, retiring and disablement pensions as well as promotion by seniority.
