Warrants [Exchequer appointments and commissions, Crown leases and stewardships including the Chiltern Hundreds, Trial of the Pyx, etc]
For the years 1727 to 1783, and for earlier entries from 1760, see:
This entry book includes warrants for the appointment of manorial officials of the Crown, such as receivers general and stewards. The latter include the stewardships for Old Shoreham, the Chiltern Hundreds and the manor of East Hendred, appointment to which enabled Members of the House of Commons to obtain an office of profit under the Crown for the time being, requiring them to vacate their seats. Their listing is haphazard, even if sometimes helpfully highlighted by a marginal indication in red ink, but this is the most convenient source of such resignation dates from 23 January 1787 to 17 March 1849.
