The Hospital Services Division was set up following the transfer of health responsibilities to the Welsh Office in 1970. Its main function was to give central government input to the services provided by the Welsh hospital organisations. It liaised with the Welsh Hospital Board until its abolition in 1974, and occasionally with individual hospitals, especially the University Hospital of Wales.
