This series contains registered files in the LGR series used by the Local Government Reorganisation Division of the Welsh Office. The LGR prefix was introduced for the division and continued in use after the division was wound up for files dealing with the same functions.
Early files in the series relate to the setting up of the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales and the initial work involved in the reorganisation of local boundaries which resulted in the Local Government Act 1972, with initial investigations into the effects of changes in the county boundaries and structure.
