This series contains unregistered papers produced by individual HM Inspectors while they were carrying out their routine duties in Wales. They include handwritten notes relating both to routine pastoral visits and the initial drafts of formal inspection reports, working notes and papers, and correspondence relating to all types of schools and related institutions. All types of individual schools (infants, junior and secondary; local education authority and independent) are covered in this series, as are youth clubs and centres. The series also contains the result of a survey of the Welsh language in Glamorgan carried out in 1938, and surveys relating to the teaching of Welsh in the counties of South Wales.
The records are arranged in the same order in which they were sent to the Welsh Office Record Centre in 1990.
The papers are arranged by local education authorities that were in existence when the records were created for all counties, the LEA number relevant to each county when the file was created have been added incorporating boundary changes. Counties are alphabetically arranged within present border parameters. The school number categorises the type of school.
