This series contains copies of progress reports sent by the foreman or chargehand responsible for maintenance work at ancient monuments in Wales to his Superintendent of Works.
These forms were first introduced into the Office of Works and were still in use when responsibility for ancient monuments passed from the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works to the Welsh Office in 1969 (although English forms seem to have continued to be used). Although they were known as monthly reports, they were, in fact, produced fortnightly. They were compiled by site foreman or chargehand and countersigned by the superintendent of works.
The forms include details of all work carried out, the number and particular trades of the men employed and details of visits by the architect and inspectors of ancient monuments. The earlier forms are in much greater detail than the later ones.
Files dealing with the maintenance of some of the monuments referred to in this series are in WORK 14
