The files in this series contain papers relating to cases referred to the Welsh Office by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration (The Ombudsman). They cover a wide variety of complaints, most of them relating to property, agriculture and highway matters though a few are concerned with the use of the Welsh language.

Files contain a statement of the complaint, details of the department's investigation and a record of the commissioner's decision.

Administrative / biographical background

The post of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration was created by the Parliamentary Commissioner Act 1967. The commissioner's function is to investigate complaints referred to him via Members of the House of Commons from the members of the public who claim to have suffered injustice as a consequence of maladministration in actions taken by or on behalf of government departments.
