This registered file series originated in the Welsh Roads Division of the Ministry of Transport in Cardiff. When responsibility for roads in Wales was taken over by the Welsh Office in 1965, they passed to the Transport and Highways Directorate.
These files cover various aspects of Welsh roads from departmental policy to highways maintenance. They deal with highway matters generally, and many of them relate to development plans and proposals under the Town and Country Planning Act 1947. There are also a number of files concerning bridges and ferries.
