Description

Despatches from Joseph John Asser, governor of Bermuda, together with letters from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Bermuda. Despatches are described at item level; other correspondence is not, and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (disposal of naval wireless telegraph station, supply of oil fuel to ships by West Indies Oil Company);
  • Crown Agents (vacancies for three artisans in the Public Works Department);
  • Foreign Office (Dominican sisters for leper asylum);
  • Home Office (use of title 'Royal');
  • Board of Trade (seizure of motorboat Fidus, adoption of Imperial Preference by Bermuda, liquor smuggling into the United States, SS Reviver, supply of fuel oil to bunkers, steam yacht Istar);
  • Treasury (transfer of naval wireless telegraph station, alliance for super tax purposes);
  • Lloyds Bank Limited (Sir J Willcocks, alliances for super tax);
  • Western Union Telegraph Company (new type of submarine cable);
  • General Post Office (wireless telegraphy draft Bill);
  • Colonial Office (appointment of Lawrence Ogilvie as plant pathologist, appointment of clerk to Registrar General Wilfred Norman Parker);
  • Overseas Nursing Association (appointment of nurses Miss Margaret Williams, Miss M Brown and Dorothy Robinson).
