Description

Despatches from Frederick Walter Kitchener, governor of Bermuda, together with letters received from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and individuals relating to Bermuda. Despatches are described at item level; other correspondence is not, and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (tenancy of the Natural History Society on Agar Island, marriage of Admiralty employees at the Bermuda Dockyard);
  • Crown Agents (purchase of a dredger for St George's Channel, new issue of postage stamps);
  • Privy Council Office (rules framed by the Central Midwives Board in pursuance of section 3 of the Midwives Act 1902);
  • Foreign Office (head tax levied by the United States Government);
  • Board of Trade (reports of the Cables Committee concerning the establishment of wireless telegraphy on Bermuda);
  • Treasury (allowance to F L Godet);
  • War Office (tenancy of the Natural History Society on Agar Island);
  • House of Commons (the Hamilton Traffic Act);
  • Borough Road Training College (application of A C Hodgson);
  • Trinity House (lights on Gibb's Hill and St David's Island);
  • Elder Dempster and Company (call of the Port Kingston at Bermuda);
  • General Post Office (need for a direct mail service, wireless telegraphy in Bermuda);
  • Zoological Society of London (lease of Agar's Island);
  • Halifax and Bermudas Cable Company (cable rates);
  • United Wireless Telegraph Company of the USA (application to erect a wireless telegraph station).
