Description

Despatches from Governor Lyons and Acting Governor Moore as well as letters from various offices (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Bermuda. Despatches are described at item level; correspondence from officers and individuals is not. Correspondents and subjects for offices and individuals are as follows:

Individuals:

  • Admiralty (anchorage for German war vessel, omission of Admiral to visit governor, maintenance of pilots in quarantine, Bill respecting vessels in distress);
  • Crown Agents (widows' and orphans' fund);
  • Board of Trade (Bill respecting vessels in distress);
  • Law Officers (grants of land by Crown below high water mark);
  • Foreign Office (arrest of W R Henry in Haiti);
  • War Office (scheme for electric cars and lighting, proposals respecting survey, destruction of North Rock, cost of the survey);
  • General Post Office (parcel post with the United States, Post Office Regulation Act, counterfeit postage stamps);
  • Lloyds (vessels in distress, Distressed Shipping Bill);
  • Kew Gardens (botanic station, letters from Mr Morrison);
  • Halifax & Bermuda Cable Company (cable extension, proposed Bill);
  • Local Government Board (sanitary report on Hamilton).

Individual:

  • W R Heney (arrest and imprisonment in Haiti)
