Description

Despatches from Governor Newdegate and Acting Governor Pym as well as letters from various offices (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Bermuda. Despatches are described at item level; correspondence from officers and individuals is not. Correspondents and subjects for offices and individuals are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (use of blue ensign by yacht club, yacht club personal warrants, deepening of channels, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club);
  • Board of Trade (withdrawal of claim regarding the Alfred, tax on registration of vessels,);
  • Law Officers (naturalisation certificates);
  • Treasury (bridge over Somerset Ferry, Act No 15 of 1890 Silver Coin, raising of local forces, quit rent account, telegrams to and from Bermuda, copyright return, bridge between Somerset and Watford Islands);
  • War Office (survey of Old Ship Channel, holding of land by naturalised aliens, governor's tour of inspection, channels from Grassy Bay to Hamilton Harbour, Princess Hotel Act, Militia and Volunteer Bills, Bill to incorporate Sisters of Charity, maintenance of militia and volunteers);
  • General Post Office (mail contract with Quebec Steam Ship Company, money order business with the United States, Act No 32 Session Two of 1890 regarding the Post Office, landing of mail at Hamilton);
  • Direct United States Cable Company (telegraphic correspondence with Bermuda).
