Description

Letters from individuals most of which relate to the Convict Department and to despatches sent from the governor in CO 37/151 to CO 37/153. Correspondents and subjects covered are as follows:

  • Rev W L Barnes (property of the deceased convict Robert Hall)
  • Dr C H Butterfield (convicts on the Sir George Seymour, income tax deduction);
  • Thomas Beadle and John Vesey (passage, pay advance);
  • James Chubb, former Overseer of Convicts (pension);
  • Thomas Catlin (claim to 17 days pay as convict guard);
  • William Clay, Governor of Portland Prison (money advanced to convict officers, travelling expenses of Convict Officer Samuel Martin);
  • Cox & Co (Governor's salary certificate);
  • Joseph Cooper (Convict Department employment request);
  • Patrick Dee (requests the mitigation of his son's sentence);
  • Mary Edwards (pay due to her late husband convict Frederic Edwards);
  • Colonel W H Eden (Attorney General John H Darrell's claim to appointment as Chief Justiceship, Solicitor General D Stewart claim to appointment as Attorney General);
  • Sir Charles Elliot (Chief Justice Thomas Butterfield's request for a pension, John H Darrell's request to succeed Butterfield);
  • Catherine Foley (requests the remission of convict Charles Foley's sentence) [not included in volume];
  • Dr John B Foggo (140 Irish Convicts landed at Spike Island from the Markland, his return to Bermuda, pay, expenses, passage back, income tax deduction);
