Description

Despatches from Acting Governors Henry G Hunt (items 1-19) and Robert Kennedy (items 20-32) as well as letters from various government offices (departments) and individuals. Despatches are described at item level; correspondence from offices and individuals is not. Correspondents and subjects covered in offices and individuals are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (Sir S R Chapman's passage from Bermuda to New York);
  • Commander in Chief (augmentation of the troops in 1830 and the 1832 withdrawal of one of the regiments stationed in Jamaica);
  • Board of Trade (the transit trade of provision to the West Indies);
  • Foreign Office (letter from the American Charge D'affaires claiming compensation for slaves liberated by Bermudian authorities from the Enterprize);
  • Home Office (case of convict Hugh Clifford);
  • Law Officers (Act for the encouragement of ship building);
  • Ordnance (account of military work being carried out in Bermuda);
  • Treasury (mail to be forwarded, issue of forage to the medical officer of the Ordnance, Bishop's passage, custom's officers need to supply returns, claim of John and Samuel Musson);
