Description

Letters from various offices (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Bermuda. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (alleged illegal trial of Mr Lawson for forgery in the Piracy Court);
  • Council Office (transportation of felons to New South Wales and Bermuda);
  • Board of Trade (tonnage duty on American ships trading with Bermuda);
  • Law Officers (dispute between Sir W Lumley and certain inhabitants, G Hunt's petition regarding the seizure of his ship off Guadeloupe);
  • James Stephen, Legal Adviser (Churchwardens Barsham and Till case, charges against Sir William Lumley, Mr Holland's case);
  • War Office (Lieutenant McGoldrick's income as Deputy Secretary);
  • Navy Office (shipment of Attorney General Holland's books, payment of the freight for Sir William Lumley's baggage);
  • Treasury (payment of signal man by colony, governor's allowance for a private secretary).
