Description

Letters from offices (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Bermuda. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Horse Guards (passage of the 102nd Regiment, state of the barracks, 4th Garrison Battalion, George Horsford);
  • Admiralty (passage of the 102nd Regiment, passage of the 4th Garrison Battalion, Attorney General Forbes' petition, appointment of Francis Forbes as advocate general, convoy for Bermuda not Halifax, importation of 'negroes' from the United States);
  • Treasury (conduct of Collector of Customs John Stewart, quit rent of the late Samuel Trott, salary and allowances of the governor's private secretary, bills drawn by the lieutenant governor, Horsford's salary, shipment of military equipment);
  • John Stewart (petition concerning his suspension from the Council);
  • Council (Bermuda Acts, Act for the establishment of a post office, suspension of Collector of Customs John Stewart);
  • Ordnance (explosion of the Hen Island magazine, conveyance of muskets and swords, progress on defence works, supply of arms for the militia);
  • War Office (field allowances, purchase of bark);
  • George Horsford, lieutenant governor (governorship, salary);
  • Francis Forbes, attorney general (advocate general position);
  • Sundry Division (removal of seat of government from St George to Hamilton);
  • Transport Office (passage of Rev Herbert);
  • Board of Trade (trade with the United States);
  • Doctors Commons (advocate general position);
  • Army Pay Office (proposed appointment of John Mill as resident paymaster general);
  • Storekeeper General's Office (shipment of military equipment for the barracks);
  • Sir James Cockburn, Governor (British Council's opinion concerning his correspondence with Mr Stewart, conference of presidency of the Council on the chief justice);
  • John Brickwood, Public Agent (arms for the militia).
