Description

Despatches from John Hodgson, governor of Bermuda dated August to December 1809, together with correspondence from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and from individuals on matters relating to Bermuda sent during the year. Despatches are described at item level; other correspondence is not, and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Robert Kennedy, Colonial Secretary (proposal for the sale of certain land, charges against Governor Hodgson by former Speaker of Assembly Harvey);
  • Treasury (wine instead of rum for the troops, military expenditure, D Leonard's retirement);
  • Comptroller's Office (supply of provisions for the troops);
  • Colonial Office (wine instead of rum for the troops);
  • General Post Office (neglect of the postmaster at Halifax)
