Description

Despatches from Acting Governor Henry Tucker (August to December 1803) as well as letters from various 'offices' (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Bermuda. Despatches are described at item level; correspondence from officers and individuals is not and correspondents and subjects are as follows and described at item level:

  • Mrs Alicia Cambell, widow of former Governor William Campbell (memorial requesting augmentation to her pension);
  • Treasury (military expenditure, public expenditure)
  • Victualling Office (provisions for troops);
  • James Christie Esten (plan to return to Bermuda and resume duties of office);
  • W Hawkener (William Foot's appointment to the Council);
  • Lieutenant Colonial Backhouse, 47th Regiment (estate of Don Ramon Orosco an enemy alien);
  • John Brickwood, Public Agent (conveyance of letters of marque to the colonies, petition from the Council and Assembly concerning Prize Courts);
  • George Beckwith (need to have his accounts examined by the auditors due to his role in directing public expenditure in Bermuda);
  • Major Robert Walker, Commanding the Royal Fusiliers (requests a promotion).
