Description

Despatches from Governor George Beckwith (September to December 1802) as well as letters from various 'offices' (government departments and other organisations) and individuals on matters related to Bermuda. Despatches are described at item level; correspondence from officers and individuals is not and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Treasury (bills drawn by Governor Beckwith on account of military disbursements);
  • John Brickwood, Public Agent (case of the owners of the privateer Retrieve in the capture of the American schooner Republican, salt trade of the Turks Islands);
  • Victualling Office (information regarding the William victualler);
  • Council Office (case of the privateer Retrieve in the capture of the American schooner Republican);
  • J G P Z of Cashel, Count of Tipperary, Ireland (importance of Bermuda as a Naval outpost);
  • James Christie Esten (requests leave of absence from new appointment of Attorney General).
