Miscellaneous Papers - Are not in date order and relate to the difficulties faced by the inhabitants of Bermuda due to the prohibition of trade with the American 'rebels' during The American Revolution (American War of Independence). Topics discussed include the illicit trade in salt and gunpowder, the need for troops and warships to be sent to the island to stop illicit trade, the suspension of customs searcher at the west end Paul Bacome, and the case of the Council and Assembly against Lieutenant Governor George Bruere. Papers include those from the administration of three governors. George James Bruere was governor from August 1764 to August 1780. His son, George Bruere, was lieutenant governor from October 1780 to December 1781. William Browne was governor from January 1782 to January 1790. Described at item level
