Description

Despatches from Sir Henry Warde, governor of Barbados, together with correspondence from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and from individuals on matters relating to Barbados. Despatches are described at item level; correspondence from offices and individuals is not, and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (accoutrements for Barbados to be loaded on board the Isis, conveyance of the 12th Regiment from Portsmouth to Gibraltar and of the 27th from Gibraltar to Barbados on HMS Ganges and Superb, forwards two printed papers concerning the destruction of the Wesleyan Chapel brought from Barbados by the Duke of York packet);
  • Foreign Office (forwards copies [not in item] of communications from the commissary judge at Surinam and from the British ambassador in the Netherlands concerning the capture and condemnation of the slave vessel Snow on board which was a British seaman William Askens);
  • Board of Ordnance (repair of batteries, state of the fortifications, supply and shipping of 1200 sets of accoutrements [4 items];
  • James Stephen, legal adviser (his opinion on disposal of the escheated property of the late Phoebe Ford, possible prosecution of William Askens, the case of Mr Seymour, the case of Mrs Sarah Ann Forster);
  • Treasury (forwards reports on the seizure of the schooner Alicia and on the liability for payment of duties of goods condemned for a breach of navigation laws, the petition of Richard Streams, payment of salary of governor's private secretary);
  • Wesleyan Missionary Society (memorial concerning destruction of chapel [with various enclosures]).

  • Robert Ferrier (forwards letter from Mr Crane [not in item; sent to Treasury]);
  • Mary Fletcher (her claim for certain property [3 letters]);
  • Kurlam [?] (forwards papers from Sir Henry Warde [not in item]).
