Description

Despatches from Lord Combermere, governor of Barbados, together with correspondence from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and from individuals on matters relating to Barbados. Despatches are described at item level; other correspondence is not and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Agent (leave of absence for Robert Cock);
  • Privy Council Office (Renn Hamden's appointment to the Council);
  • Board of Ordnance (supply of arms for the militia);
  • George Canning (case of 'revolted negroes' [see item 17 in this volume], recommendation for commission in the militia for Mr W Knight);
  • Treasury (salary and allowances for governor's private secretary [four items], petition of Barbara and Sarah Kirton).

Individuals:

  • N & G Collyer (payment of governor's salary [five items]);
  • William Coupland and William Kermode (their claim against the Government of Barbados in respect of the requisitioning of their ships);
  • Lord Colchester (asks for a letter to be forwarded to Lord Combermere);
  • Thomas Hutchon (states that he is principal in a Chancery suit in Barbados and requests an introduction to the governor);
  • Samuel Hall Lord (his petition in respect of enslaved persons convicted following the 'insurrection' [see item 17 in this volume);
  • Thomas Moody (claim for arrears of salary as private secretary to Sir James Leith following the death of the latter [four items]).
