Description

Despatches from President John Spooner, together with correspondence from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and from individuals on matters relating to Barbados. Despatches are described at item level; other correspondence is not, and correspondents and subjects are as follows:

  • Treasury (payment of the salary of President Spooner's secretary [2 items], payment of Mr Benjamin Walrond's salary);
  • Colonial Office (conveyance of the prisoner Elizabeth Negard, 'a Coloured Woman', from Portsmouth to Barbados on board the transport Oak Hall);
  • Lord Seaforth (forwards copy of a letter and paper sent to Mr Huskisson concerning a claim from the Audit Office that he has not submitted the necessary accounts from his period as Governor of Barbados);
  • Board of Trade (Barbados Act imposing a duty on salted fish and a tonnage duty on neutral vessels is satisfactory)
