Description

Correspondence received from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and individuals on subjects concerning the Leeward Islands. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (Mr Hancock as Judge of Vice-Admiralty Court);
  • Crown Agents (Antigua: water works debentures, the steamer Union; Dominica: cement shipped on the Speroid; St Kitts: loan debentures; Montserrat: water works loan);
  • Treasury (Montserrat: lease of Sombrero Island, purchase of the Union; Virgin Islands: application of Elizabeth Brown for relief, the SS Union, lease of Sombrero Island, expenses on account of the Union, sale of the Union, case of Elizabeth Brown);
  • Foreign Office (Virgin Islands: Aves Island or Bird Island, importation of certain labourers into Cuba);
  • War Office (Virgin Islands: travelling allowances of Captain Alexander, local allowance to Royal Engineer officers on West Indian Station).
