Description

Correspondence received from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) and individuals on subjects concerning the Leeward Islands. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • Admiralty (Antigua: Naval Establishment and the proposed abolition);
  • Council Offices (Dominica: estate of the late C Herriart and the petition of Mrs Rose Cosalie Gaspard);
  • Board of Trade (Antigua: life saving by C W Scott, re-registration of British vessels under Certificate of Sale);
  • Treasury (Montserrat: application of Mrs Hamilton, School Mistress, for leave to discharge her duties by deputy; St Kitts: Sombrero Island and the extension of Mr Evans lease; Montserrat/Nevis: mail services, withdrawal of Spanish pesetas from circulation; Antigua: Bishop of Antigua and the arrangements for Coadjutor, pension case of Mr R P Griffith; Dominica: Import and Export Tax Act 1879);
  • Foreign Office (Leewards: detention of Amanda Henley in Venezuela, extradition of Jules Sandou, British pauper children in St Thomas, case of Amanda Henley; Dominica: the case of an Italian swindler Vincenzo Evangelista Pusateri);
  • War Office (St Kitts: Militia Amendment Act 1879, use of Old Fort at Palmette Point as burial ground for Wesleyans).
