Private papers of Sir Claude Inglis, the first Director of the Hydraulics Research Station. The papers, which consist of maps, correspondence and reports, relate to his earlier work in irrigation research and development with which he was involved in India, both in the Irrigation Branch of the Public Works Department in Bombay and as Director of the Indian Waterways Experimental Station at Poona.
Sir Claude Inglis, the first Director of the Hydraulics Research Station, (1947-1958), gained his early experience in irrigation in India, where, between 1916 and 1938, he initiated and directed irrigation research and development for the Bombay Presidency. From 1938 to 1945 he was the Director of the Indian Waterways Experiment Station, Poona.
