Administrative / biographical background

The post of Chief Officer, London (Heathrow) Airport was established within the Ministry of Aviation, London Airports (Management) Division, in 1963. In 1967 this post was transferred to the Board of Trade, Aerodromes (General Division) and in 1969 to the Board of Trade, Civil Aviation Division 2. In 1970 it was subsumed into the Department of Trade and Industry, Civil Aviation Division 3 and finally, in 1972 responsibility for this function was transferred to the Civil Aviation Authority; the file series was not continued beyond 1972.
