AVIA 111
1963-1972
The registered files in this series reflect the work of successive divisions of the Ministry of Aviation, the Ministry of Technology and the Department of Trade and Industry relating to economic and statistical work in the aircraft industry. The files selected relate to economic appraisals of the aircraft industry, including the Black Arrow Space Project.
The PJ series probably originated in the Ministry of Aviation's Security, Atomic Weapons and Research Division, Central Statistics Branch.
When the Ministry of Aviation's functions were merged with the Ministry of Technology (Mintech) in 1967, the PJ series was transferred firstly to the Economic and Statistical Analysis Division and then in 1969 to the Economics and Statistics(A) Division.

In 1970 the work was transferred to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) together with a number of other statistical functions formerly dealt with by the Board of Trade and Mintech. This resulted in a new Economics and Statistics Division being formed in June 1971.
The work of the various divisions was described as being related to economic and statistical work in the aircraft industry. The Central Statistics Branch provided a statistical intelligence service relating to the Ministry's activities in general, whilst in Mintech the division worked closely with the Air C Division providing a diverse statistical service to the aviation group. Within the DTI, branches 1 and 3 of the division carried out the economic and statistical work relating to the aerospace industry
