The Directorate of Administration was established in 1962 in the Ministry of Aviation as part of the new Controllerate National Air Traffic Control Services.
It was responsible for general administrative assistance and collation of the views of the various finance branches in the Ministry of Aviation (ATC) expenditure so as to give the Controller a comprehensive picture of the financial implications of any ATC planning proposals and to assist him in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts of expenditure. It was also responsible for the control of expenditure to be met from the Civil Aviation Ground Services vote on ATC projects promoted by the Controller and in pursuance of the UK's obligations under the Eurocontrol Convention.
In 1966 the directorate was transferred to the Board of Trade, together with other civil aviation functions, where it continued in existence until the early 1970's.
