Miscellaneous correspondence and papers of 2nd Baron and 1st Earl of Ellenborough relating principally to Indian affairs, in six parts:

  • Part 1: folios 1-391. Various correspondence including: Copy of a secret letter to the government of Bengal; Trade with Persia; Proposed government bank at Bombay; Notes on proposed plan for the transfer of the India register debt to England; East India company affairs; Native princes; List of regulations regarding permission to Europeans to hold lands in India;Various statements; Indian cotton; Trade with India; Uniform currency in India; Bengal rules and regulations respecting lascars and other Indian seamen. Dates 1826 - 1829.

  • Part 2: folios 392-655. Various correspondence including: Memorandum on what sums is applicable to the payment of dividends on East India stock; Complaints of disadvantages experienced by private merchants; Memorandum on revenue settlements; Rate of exchange; commercial advances and repayment territory Lowering the rate of exchange; Remittance of interests of loans; Customs duties in Bengal; Unrated wood; East India committee Provision for the widow of the late bishop of Calcutta; Divisions in charge of the commissioners of revenue and circuit. ates 1829 - 1830.
  • Part 3: folios 656-946. Various correspondence including: Offering Indian judgeship to his brother; Copies of secret letters addressed by order of the commissioners for the affairs of India to the government of Bengal; Report from the select committee of the house of lords appointed to enquire into the present state of the affairs of the East India Company and into the trade between Great Britain, the Easte Indies and China (1830); Indian navy; Sketch of the judicial system of the three Presidencies. Dates: 1830 - 1835.
  • Part 4: 947-1327. Various correspondence including: Drawing of the interior of the Town Hall in Calcutta; Account of the exports from China to British India; Memorandum on the proceedings of the Assam Company for carrying on the cultivation of tea in Assam; The Bengal military fund and the East India company; Allen’s Indian Mail, Bengal (3 Dec 1855) and other Newspapers cuttings, 1856. Dates: 1835 - 1856.
  • Part 5: folios 1328-1709. Various correspondence including: Statement on the loss on the exchange operations of the Bengal military fund; Landed tenure in the Punjab; The morning Advertiser, 27 July 1857; Bombay Gazette, 23 Jan 1858; Execution of mutineers; Various accounts of treasuries in India; Military occupation of India; Delhi: fortifications, palaces etc;Receipts of disbursement of home treasury, 13 March 1858; Reconstruction of the Bengal Army; East India load bill; Gwalior treaty; Persian mission; Extension of amnesty. Dates: 1857 - 1858.
