Description

Germany: Prisoners, including:

Literature requested for German prisoners interned in Australia through the Norwegian Consul at Sydney.

Arrangements for return to Germany of books sent to German prisoners of war.

Cashing and confiscation of German East African notes:

  • Non-recognition by British of currency.
  • International arrangements for cashing German East African notes.
  • Advances to prisoners on security of German East African notes.
  • Application of exchange procedures in Egypt and Malta.
  • Confiscation of 10,000 rupee and interim notes of the German East African Bank.
  • Draft letter to Swiss Legation giving reasons for Britain's refusal to accept notes of the German East African Bank as security for advances to Germans detained or interned in India.

Lieutenant Ralph E Snook (presumed dead): enquiry requested to establish further information on the alleged capture of Snook by Germany, together with eight British submarine captains.

  • Monsieur Leon Philipperon of the villages Paturages and Wasnes: claim for assisting British soldiers during the retreat from Mons.
  • War Office correspondence on the need for international co-operation in supplying names of societies and individuals who have rendered services to British subjects.
  • Mademoiselle Rousselot Schoepfer of Colmar, Alsace: claim by Madame Magdaleine A de Lima regarding Rousselot's assistance to fifty British soldiers interned in Colmar from June to December 1918.
  • Monsieur Port, of Sarralbe: claim regarding his assistance to British prisoners of war at Sarralbe.
  • Monsieur Seignez and Monsieur Parmentier of St Denis: claim for sheltering Private Daniel O'Sullivan and another British soldier.
  • Rene Dubois, medical student of Louvain: correspondence regarding testimony of Captain Victor Logan on Dubois' valuable services to British prisoners of war at Soltau prisoner of war camp.
  • Mesdames Chalandre, Preux and Cardon: British Government decision to reward them for their assistance to British soldiers.
  • Letter from W H Cozens Hardy praising the courageous actions of various inhabitants of Neuf Brissah, Alsace, in relieving the suffering of British prisoners of war: Monsieur Hamel, Mayor of Neuf Brissah; Mademoiselle Hamel, his daughter; Monsieur Meyer, lock keeper; and Monsieur and Madame Vagenheim.
