Repatriation of German prisoners of war, including:

  • Transport of repatriated Austrian and German subjects: telegram from Sir Walter Townley dismissing complaints as exaggerated and commenting on Dutch public opinion regarding the reported abuses.
  • Arrangements for examination on arrival in Britain of vessels carrying repatriated German subjects from China and overseas.
  • Ministry of Shipping report on alleged ill-treatment of Austrian and German prisoners of war on board British repatriation ships.
  • Memorandum regarding German allegations as to treatment of repatriated civilians on board the Manitou.
  • Results of inquiry into treatment of Austrian and German civilians during repatriation via Rotterdam.
  • German Government communication protesting against the ill-treatment of German civilians by the British during repatriation, giving names and details of cases of abuse and requesting the British Government take action.
