Description

Austria-Hungary: Prisoners, including:

Miss Ada Carrie Steele: decision that she should not be permitted to return from Vienna with her daughter to the UK.

Repatriation of civilians, including:

  • Robert Lawson, interned in Vienna: request from his brother, Wilfred Lawson, for permission for him to bring books and scientific records on his return to the UK.
  • Advice from the Admiralty that books and heavy luggage could be sent to the UK from Trieste on colliers [coal-ships].
  • John Donovan: request for permission to return to Vienna to collect his luggage, with a form of enquiry requesting information about his brothers James Donovan and Harry Donovan.
  • Mr H L Herivel: request for assistance in recovering luggage left behind in Austria, and for the issue of a passport to travel to Austria.
  • Mr A Elliott: enquiry about his luggage in Vienna which was reportedly handed over to Lieutenant Parker of the British Mission in Vienna.
  • Mr Anton Wallach, a repatriated Austrian subject: request for the refund of a sum of money taken from him by the British authorities prior to his repatriation.
  • Request by the Austrian authorities for the return of heavy luggage and furniture belonging to repatriated Austrian civilians who were interned at Douglas, Isle of Man.
  • Charles Cocking: claim for compensation for the loss of his and his wife's luggage while travelling to the UK from Venice by train.
  • Request by the Prisoners of War Information Bureau for advice on the disposal of the luggage and effects of former interned enemy civilians; recommendation that this question should be dealt with by a specially constituted sub-commission.

Mrs Biedermann resident in Austria: request by Messrs Robinson, Wilkins and Thacker, solicitors for the estate of her late husband, Mr C C Biedermann, for permission to transfer income from the estate to her.
