Description

Turkey: Prisoners, including:

Letter from the Government of India requesting instructions as to the treatment of five Turkish priests sent to India as prisoners of war.

Permission for interned Muslims to attend a Mosque in Pietermaritzburg on religious feast days.

Religious ministrations to British prisoners of war in Turkey:

  • Letter from Reverend H Cotton Smith offering to proceed to Turkey in order to minister to British prisoners of war.
  • Letter from Reverend W S Langston Day requesting that he may be appointed as British Government chaplain in Constantinople.
  • Letter from Reverend R Hodgson, contradicting statement of Reverend Langston Day, stating that he has long been senior chaplain at Constantinople.
  • Letter from Reverend W S Langston Day stating that he has performed all important chaplaining work at Constantinople, and requesting payment of a stipend to help cover his heavy debts.

Petition of Mr Summers of the Black Sea Life Saving Service for an increase in the monthly advances made to him out of the British Relief Fund at Constantinople.

Death of Reginald Herbert Scudamore and repatriation of Scudamore family:

  • Letter dated 4 May 1918, from Herbert Dawson, brother in law of Reginald Scudamore, requesting information on whether his relatives will be included in the list of civilian prisoners to be repatriated from Turkey.
