Description

France: Prisoners, including:

Weekly statements of the numbers of naval and military prisoners interned in the United Kingdom and France, from 3 January 1917 to 26 December 1917 (in docket nos.2993-147694).

Mr John Macdonald, including:

  • Request for the French Government to reimburse his wife for the value of the currency which she had brought from Lille.
  • Enquiry about the possible repatriation of Mrs Macdonald's parents, Mr and Mrs William Lees, from Lille.
  • Request by Mr Macdonald for intervention by the Foreign Office in respect of his call-up for military service

Miss Louisa Austen Brookman at Lille: payments to her from Messrs Latcham and Montague via the British Relief Fund.

Proposal for an agreement between the British and French governments for the mutual exchange of prisoners who had escaped from internment in France and the United Kingdom, with a list of German prisoners who had escaped from French custody (in docket no.162839).

Mr James Sampson: enquiries about the possible repatriation from Roubaix of his daughter, Miss Kathleen Sampson, and Miss Florence Buckingham.

Mrs Ada M Wood: request for the repatriation of her daughter, Miss Gertrude Wood, from Lille.

Mrs E Kelly: enquiry about the welfare of her daughter, Miss Helen Kelly, at Lille.

Mrs Mary Stone: enquiry about the welfare of her daughter, Miss Charlotte Stone, at Tourcoing.

Mr James Walker: authority for him to send regular remittances to his sister-in-law, Mrs Henry Walker, in Lille, with details of the amounts sent.

Mouktar Bey, son of the former Sheik El Islam, interned at Granville: representations from Monsieur Jean Longuet for his release.

Wilhelm Henri Laub, a German subject interned at St Afrique near Aveyron: request for his luggage to be sent to him from Liverpool.

Mrs Marie Wallace: enquiries about the whereabouts and welfare of her husband, Mr Theodore Wallace, a British subject who had been imprisoned at Loos; transmission of messages and remittances to him at Lille.

Reverend Henry Fishe and his family at Croix, including:

  • Information from the German Government that the Reverend Fishe could not be repatriated due to the state of his health.
  • Enquiry from Mr Charles Fishe, about the health and welfare of the Reverend Fishe, his family, and his wife's sister, Miss Irwin.
  • Enquiry from Mr Charles Fishe, about the health and welfare of the Reverend Fishe, his family, and his wife's sister, Miss Irwin.

Proposal by the French Government for the transfer of all French prisoners held in Alsace-Lorraine to France.

Extract from the Journal Offiiciel of 14 June 1917, reporting on the establishment of a French commission to examine questions relating to the treatment of prisoners.

Transmission to the Swiss Legation in London of money confiscated from German prisoners captured in the Cameroons and later interned at Dahomey (names of the prisoners in docket no.175440).

Recognition by the British Government of the assistance provided to certain British soldiers by Monsieur l'Abbé Emile Deschodt, with a report (French language) of Monsieur Deschodt's activities.

Leo Bergmann, a German subject interned at Ile-Longue: permission for his personal effects, held by Mrs Manighetti in London, to be transferred to him via the Swiss Legation in Paris.
