In addition the division liaised with local, national and international bodies on housing development matters.

In 1972 the division assumed the title of directorate. It came to be responsible for a range of development issues such as the the housing needs of special groups, the provision of advice on the standards and layout of housing and for developing technical aspects of housing construction.

In 1981 the Housing Development Directorate was disbanded and its responsibilities distributed among various branches of Housing B Division.
