Description

PERSONNEL: Recruitment (Code 35/3): Recruitment of labour from Eire for aircraft industry: procedure. Examples of leave certificates, discussions of Christmas leave, approximate requirements for Irish staff of various factories and works. Account of Irish workers and the problem of ill health, particularly lice, tuberculosis and scabies. Dispute with the Irish authorities leading to the suspension of recruitment in Eire and the subsequent resumption of recruitment but at a slower rate. Disappointment in Britain with the small numbers of Irish citizens coming through the system. Analysis of the problems of finding lodgings for the workers and the difficulties in matching worker's talents to the right jobs.
