This Northern Circuit series consists of volumes which are entry books of sentences imposed upon persons convicted of criminal offences at the assizes. Each entry gives the parties ("The Queen against ..."), the name of the person convicted, the offence and the sentence. At the end of each entry for the years 1879-1890 is rubber-stamped: "By the Court, Shuttleworth". T M Shuttleworth was the clerk of assize and associate of the Northern circuit.
