This series consists of copies of Sales Circular and Retail Circular produced by the British Railways Board in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The circular contained information about ticket designs, special offers and promotions (both by railway and outside bodies), station name changes, advertising leaflets, special services and service alterations. Opportunity was taken to inform the sales outlets of stolen or lost tickets, passes and warrants and other irregularities.

The Retail Circular was issued by British Rail to booking offices and travel agents to keep them informed of ticket changes and other arrangements.
The circular was first published under the name Sales Circular on 12 April 1986 and its name was changed to Retail Circular during the period between July 1989 and February 1991. The frequency of publication fluctuated between weekly and fortnightly. The last edition was published on 16 April 1994 after which it was replaced by Newsrail Express.
