Description

Tithe map of Cheriton (parish), Kent. Shows buildings (named), hospital, cavalry barracks, grand redoubt, churchyard, camp ground, woods (coloured), footpath and/or bridleway, railway, waterbodies, canal. Some foreshore features depicted: extraordinary high water mark, low water neap tides. Industrial land-use: kiln. Colouring used. Scale: 1 inch to 3 chains; Sandgate town at 1 inch to 1.5 chains [1:1188]. First class map. By John Adams, Hawkhurst. The date 1828 is given in the title, but the date of drawing is more likely to be c.1840-1841.

With 4 altered apportionment maps. 1] Dated 21 January 1878, at 1 inch to 3 chains, showing Grand Redoubt. 2] Dated 24 May 1902, at 1 inch to 3 chains. 3] Dated 21 September 1917, at 1:2500; Ordnance Survey map Kent sheets LXXIV.8, LXXIV.12, LXXV.5, LXXV.9, showing South Eastern and Chatham railway and Shorncliffe Camp. 4] At 1:2500, showing Shorncliffe Camp. Other altered apportionment maps are located with the apportionment.
