Description

Viscount Castlereagh to Lord Chatham stating he had no recent news from Sir John Moore, but that his brother was with the cavalry at Elvas on 1st November forming the rear of Hope's Division

Note
[Charles William Stewart (1778-1854), half-brother of Lord Castlereagh; commanded cavalry brigade in Hope's Division, 1808; succeeded his half-brother as 3rd Marques of Londonderry, 1822. Lt.-General John Hope (1765-1823) commanded one of the two divisions of Sir John Moore's army which advanced into Spain; succeeded as 3rd Earl of Hopetoun, 1816]
