Description

Captured ship: Tobias of Bergen (master Cordt Tospen).

History: a Danish (Norwegian) merchant ship (38 tons) bound from Bergen to St Martin, laden with cod roe, deals, and stockfish; taken on 30 June / 10 July 1694 off Beachy Head by HMS Blase (John Goodwin commanding), and brought into the Downs.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 2:

  • [CP 1]: two examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Bergen.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 25 July 1694].
