This series contains registered files created by the Commodities, Structures, and General Policy Division of the Welsh Office Agriculture Department. The selected files include papers, minutes and agendas of the Hill Farming Advisory Sub-Committee for Wales, which was established under Section 32 of the Hill Farming Act 1946. The Sub-Committee was tasked with advising the Secretary of State for Wales on matters relating to farming within the Less Favoured Areas. The Sub-Committee was abolished under Section 101 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006.

- These records were originally created and held by the Welsh Office. Custodianship passed to the National Assembly for Wales in 1999, followed by the Welsh Assembly Government in 2006 and the Welsh Government in 2011.

The Commodities, Structures, and General Policy Division was formed between 1991 and 1992 with a remit covering co-ordination of agricultural policy briefing; Common Agricultural Policy (CAP); EC marketing and processing schemes; marketing grant schemes and marketing policy; agricultural commodities policy; the Agricultural Advisory Panel (ADAS); agricultural structures; and the Hill Farming Advisory Sub-Committee for Wales. In 1996, the division was renamed the Commodities, Food and Marketing Division, though its remit remained largely unchanged.
